How to reserve Belém Tower & Jerónimos with the Lisboa Card
Since summer 2026, Lisboa Card holders need a free timed reservation for the Jerónimos cloister and Belém Tower. This page walks you through the booking portal, tells you when to book and what to do if the slots you want are gone.

Why the reservation exists
Since summer 2026, entry to the Jerónimos Monastery cloister and Belém Tower has been moved to a mandatory timed-entry system for Lisboa Card holders. Before that, card holders could walk in and join the general ticket queue. The change is meant to spread visitors across the day in peak season instead of concentrating them at the door.
The reservation itself is free, but you can no longer just show up: you need a booked time slot.
Which sites need a reservation
Jerónimos Monastery: the cloister needs a reservation, the church is walk-in.
Belém Tower: the interior of the tower needs a reservation.
All other Lisboa Card sites, among them Castelo de São Jorge, the National Coach Museum, Ajuda Palace, Pilar 7 and the Story Centre, are still walk-in.
You need the card number first
The reservation portal is separate from your Lisboa Card purchase. You cannot reserve a Belém slot at the moment you buy the card. The portal needs your physical card number (format LC000000000), which is only printed on the card after you've collected the physical Lisboa Card at an Ask Me Lisboa counter.
In practice this means the reservation only opens once you've collected the card, not before. Availability varies day by day: for the Jerónimos cloister you'll often find slots even on the same day; for Belém Tower, which has a much smaller building and far fewer slots, the next 1–2 days are frequently already sold out. This is where most Lisboa Card holders get stuck.
The reservation, step by step
Buy your Lisboa Card in any duration. You get a PDF voucher by email within seconds.
Go to an Ask Me Lisboa counter after you land. The easiest ones to reach from the airport are the airport arrivals hall (Terminal 1) and Rossio train station.
Swap the voucher for the physical Lisboa Card. Bring photo ID. Reduced children's cards need their own ID. Pickup takes about 90 seconds outside peak arrival hours.
Read the LC number off the front of the physical card. The format is LC followed by 9 digits (LC000000000).
Open mmp.bymeoblueticket.pt/en/search/content/16/lisboa-card. The portal takes you straight to the two Lisboa Card options (see the screenshot below). The interface is Portuguese but works on mobile. The two Lisboa Card options as they appear on mmp.bymeoblueticket.pt: Torre de Belém and the Jerónimos cloister (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Claustro).
Choose the event: "TORRE DE BELÉM — LISBOA CARD" or "MOSTEIRO DOS JERÓNIMOS — CLAUSTRO — LISBOA CARD". You need to book each separately.
Pick your date and time slot.
Enter your LC code, your name and email. Your QR ticket arrives by email; the portal may also send SMS.
At the monument: show the QR code at the entrance. Bring your physical Lisboa Card as well.
Non-refundable and non-changeable
Once booked, a Lisboa Card reservation is non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. Choose date and time carefully, because the ticket is only valid for that slot. Miss it and it's gone; there's no automatic re-booking. If your plans change, you have to book a new slot from scratch (subject to availability).
What happens when slots are gone
If your preferred slot at Belém Tower (or, less often, Jerónimos) is already taken, you have two options.
Collect your card as soon as you arrive in Lisbon and reserve straight away from your phone. For most travellers that is early enough.
Book single-entry tickets for Belém Tower and Jerónimos separately, via the GetYourGuide tickets below. They don't depend on your Lisboa Card and use the regular ticket queue. They cost a little more but give you flexibility. Use your Lisboa Card for everything else in Lisbon (transport, Castelo, Sintra, museums, Pilar 7).
For a 24 h card that already covers Castelo entry (€17) plus a full day of transport (€7.25), you're still ahead even if you buy Jerónimos (€18) and Belém Tower (€15) separately, because the card still saves you money on the rest of your day.

The 16th-century tower has narrow spiral stairs and limits how many visitors can be inside at once. That's why there are far fewer slots than at Jerónimos. Book early morning or late afternoon slots for a quieter visit.
Reopened 27 May 2026 after major restoration. Entry is now managed exclusively through timed slots.
Frequently asked reservation questions
Can I reserve on the day I collect my card?
Often yes. For the Jerónimos cloister, same-day and next-day slots are frequently available. For Belém Tower it's much tighter because the tower is small; in peak season, the next 1–2 days may already be sold out.
Do children need their own reservation?
Every person entering needs their own reservation, tied to their own Lisboa Card number. Children 0–3 enter free but still need a slot reserved for them.
Can I cancel or move my slot?
No. Lisboa Card reservations are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. If your plans change, you have to book a new slot from scratch (if any are still available).
What if the portal is down?
It occasionally is. Try a different browser, disable ad-blockers, or come back in 30 minutes. If the outage stretches into your final chance to book, an Ask Me Lisboa counter can sometimes help by phone, but that's not guaranteed.
